A great European avant-garde (1948-1951)

The art of CoBrA will be on display in Rome in December, hosted by the Fondazione Roma Museo-Palazzo Cipolla in the exhibition entitled "CoBrA. A great European avant-garde (1948-1951) ", open to the public from December 4, 2015 to April 3, 2016.
The exhibition, promoted by the Fondazione Roma and organized by the Fondazione Roma-Arte Musei with the DIE GALERIE of Frankfurt, will offer a comprehensive overview of the production of the CoBrA group - founded in Paris in 1948.
The exhibition will also be an opportunity to discover and understand the parallels between the works of its members - whose poetics was centered on the recovering of the spontaneity and of the virulence carachterizing the artistic act, on the freely use of color and shape - and those of the main European trends, exerting a strong influence on contemporary art.

The exhibition, curated by Damiano Femfert and Francesco Poli, will present the major artists of the movement: Jorn Pedersen, Dotremont, Appel, Lucebert, Corneille, Alechinsky, Götz, Constant. One hundred and fifty works will be on display, including paintings, sculptures, works on paper, publications, documents and photos. All the works are coming from leading European museums and collections that preserve the masterpieces of the group: Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; CoBrA Museum in Amstelveen; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice; Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen; GAM-Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin; Kunstmuseum in Ravensburg; Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam, in addition to the DIE GALERIE of Frankfurt
